You have up to five tries to unlock your HTC device if you’ve lost or forgotten your screen lock password, PIN, or pattern. 

If this doesn’t work, you’ll get another chance. Make sure you correctly enter the password, PIN, or pattern first. The only option to unlock your device after multiple attempts have failed is to perform a factory reset.

HOW DO I USE HARDWARE BUTTONS TO PERFORM A FACTORY RESET?

Please be mindful of the following before performing a factory reset:

• All information, files, and media on the phone storage will be deleted after a factory reset. If you didn’t previously sync or back them up, you’ll lose them and won’t be able to recover them. Before continuing, make sure you have backed up all crucial data and files.
• Before conducting the reset, make sure the phone is at least 35% charged or is plugged into an HTC charger and charging.
• Make sure you are familiar with your Google Account name and password. Once the factory reset is complete, you’ll require them to unlock your phone.
• Device Protection may be activated on smartphones running Android 5 or higher, which requires you to sign in with the same Google Account you used to access your phone after a factory reset.
• Use your computer’s web browser to go to www.google.com/accounts/recovery and reset your password if you’ve forgotten your Google Account password.

To perform the factory reset to unlock your phone:

1. Turn the power off.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME UP button. Then connect your phone to a power outlet with the USB cable and power adapter.
3. Continue holding the VOLUME UP button while the phone powers on. Release the button when the Android Recovery screen appears.
4. Use the VOLUME buttons to scroll to the Wipe data/factory reset option, and then press the POWER button.
5. If prompted to confirm, use the VOLUME DOWN button to scroll to Yes and then press the POWER button.
